The 29th Annual Labor Day Trip in August, 2011 was a great trip and one of the best, the small mobile group (Hogan, Daubert & Judy) fished on 3 different river systems in Montana and Wyoming. We started off on the Big Horn river in Montana, the river was high for this time of year (3x's normal volume) due to the heavy snow pack and late run off. Many large browns and rainbows were caught on this river. Caught on the river one evening by a massive electrical storm and driven into the tree's, so terrorizing was the storm, we couldn't even get Hogan to have a beer. Next was the N.F. of the Tongue river at a staggering 8,500 ft elevation in the stunning big horn mountain range. Caught some very nice Cutt's and then proceeded to spend the night at Bear Lodge in Burgess Junction. Double-hounds flowed the entire night at one of the coolest bars in trip history and when totaled at the end of the night, the price of admission was one fifth per man. It was greatly felt the next day by all, a day of rest was declared. We put away any ideas of fishing that day and slowly travelled down to Cody.
Next on the list was the Headwaters of the Grey Bull river, deep in the Absaroka Mountain Range. Loaded up with bear spray, Bowie knifes and an ever watching eye, we hiked into this Grizzly laden valley at 7,500 ft and had a great day of sights and fishing, all landing very nice cutthroat on this stream. We had some great nights in Cody at a few of the local bars till it was time to bust camp and head home. Brad & DJ extended at the beginning of the trip to the South Fork of the Snake, which was murked due to the runoff and had marginal fishing, Brad stayed afterwards and fished the South Fork of the Shoshone outside of Cody which turned out to be the river with the hot fishing, several 20+ inch cutt's were caught by Brad in the 3 days after we left. This was a really fun trip for those that were able to attend this year and would be a great repeat for a future trip
